Easton, PA - Junior attack Jeff Policicchio (Novi, MI/ Novi) and freshman attack Will Macumber (Manorville, NY/ Eastport South Manor) scored two goals each but it was not enough as Lafayette ran past the Seahawks by a count of 16-4 in men's lacrosse action. With the loss, Wagner fell to 0-3 on the season while the Leopards improved to 1-1. Wagner hung tough against the veteran Leopard lineup for most of the first half, trailing by just a 3-2 count with less than three minutes remaining in the opening half. But Lafayette struck for three quick goals in a final 2:53 of the half to seize a four-goal lead at intermission. Lafayette wound up out-scoring the Seahawks 3-1 in each of the first two quarters in building its 6-2 halftime lead. With 4:25 remaining in the opening stanza and Wagner trailing 3-0, Macumber found the cage on an unassisted goal. With 4:25 left in the second quarter, Policicchio scored an unassisted goal of his own to draw Wagner to within 3-2. The Leopards then pulled away by blanking Wagner 4-0 in the third quarter in extending the lead to 10-2. Policicchio and Macumber each tallied another goal in the fourth quarter to round out the Wagner scoring. Tom Perini led Lafayette with five goals while Steve Serling added three goals and three assists. The offensive prowess of Policicchio and Macumber has been a bright spot for Wagner in the early going of the 2008 season. Through three games, the crafty Policicchio has tallied four goals and one assist for a team-leading five points while Macumber has also notched four goals to tie for team-high honors and is second on the team in points with four. Lafayette out-shot Wagner 43-12 and led in ground balls by a 37-23 margin. The Seahawks are next in action on Friday, March 1 when they host Sacred Heart in a 2:00 pm face-off at Wagner College Stadium. |
