Philadelphia, PA - Playing its season opener on the road against a team competing in its third game of the season proved to be a tall task for the Wagner College women's lacrosse team, as the Seahawks dropped an 11-3 decision to Saint Joseph's.

Saint Joseph's (2-1) jumped out to an early 2-0 lead before the Seahawks responded with a pair of unanswered goals of their own by sophomore midfielder Teri Noll (Jordan, NY/ Jordan-Elbridge Central) and junior midfielder Jessica Richmond (Jenkintown, PA/ Jenkintown) to knot the game at 2-2. Both Wagner goals were unassisted.

The Hawks then countered with four straight goals to seize a 6-2 halftime edge. Saint Joseph's eventually built the lead to 11-2 before sophomore attack Janine Bright (Commack, NY/ Commack) tallied Wagner's third goal of the game with 9:55 left to play off an assist by sophomore midfielder Krista Malayter (Cheshire, CT/ Cheshire).

Christina Colangelo and Jenna Martino scored three goals apiece to pace Saint Joseph's while Courtney McManama added two goals. Lindsey-Kate McCool dished out four assists for the Hawks.

Saint Joseph's held a 30-18 edge in shots and led in the groundball department, 22-13. Sophomore Alex Johnston (Manilus, NY/ Fayetteville-Manilus) registered 10 saves in goal for Wagner.

The Seahawks are next in action on Saturday when they face Manhattan in their home opener. Face-off is set for Noon.
