Davidson Posts 20-5 Women's Lacrosse Victory over Wagner

Junior midfielder Cara Gonzalez leads the Seahawks with six goals on the season.

March 17, 2008

Final Stats

Davidson, NC - Senior midfielder Cara Gonzalez (Syracuse, NY/ Westhill) tallied two goals and junior goalies Alex Johnston (Manlius, NY/ Fayetteville-Manlius) and Amy Jones (Jarettsville, MD/ North Harford) combined for 11 saves but it was not enough to offset a hot-shooting Davidson team which jumped out to a quick 6-0 lead en route to a 20-5 victory.

Six different Wildcats scored multiple goals as Davidson improved to 5-3 on the season while the Seahawks fell to 0-5. The win was the Wildcats' second-ever against the Seahawks as the schools last met in 2002.

Sophomore Jen Crawford led the Wildcat attack with five goals while senior Emily Diefendorf added four goals. Diefendorf set the offensive tone early when she opened the contest with three straight scores for a natural hat trick in the first two minutes of action. After fellow senior Sarah Walter scored at the 26:32 mark, Diefendorf added her fourth goal and Crawford tallied the first of her five at the 24:15 mark to give the Wildcats a commanding 6-0 lead.

Wagner sophomore midfielder Teri Noll (Jordan, NY/ Jordan-Elbridge Central) broke up the shutout by tallying a goal on a free position but Davidson added four more goals to take a 10-2 lead at halftime. Junior midfielder Kelly Blundin (Plymouth Meeting, PA/ Plymouth Meeting) and freshman midfielder Karen Vitkus (Skaneateles, NY/ Skaneateles) added one goal apiece for the Seahawks.

Wagner is next in action on Thursday, March 20 when the Seahawks host Saint Francis (PA) in a 3:30 pm contest.
