WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. -
Wake Forest will play just one game this mid-week, hosting Triad-rival High Point on Wednesday at 3 p.m. at Hooks Stadium.
The game will be broadcast live on internet-only radio at www.WakeForestSports.com.
Freshman LHP Mark Adzick is scheduled to start on Wednesday for the Demon Deacons. High Point has yet to name a starting pitcher.
The Deacons and Panthers have met once already this season with Wake coming away with a 12-3 victory on March 11 in High Point. The Deacs erased an early 1-0 deficit with three runs in the fourth and four more in the fifth.
Freshman Brandon Johnson made the first start of his career and earned a victory with five innings of work. He allowed one run on three hits with six strikeouts and a walk. At the plate, Ben Terry and Weldon Woodall led the way. Terry went 3-for-6 with three RBIs, while Woodall was 2-for-4 with three runs, two RBIs and a pair of doubles. Allan Dykstra scored three times, and Evan Ocheltree drove in two runs in the game.
Dykstra and Ocheltree have both had success against High Point during their careers. Dykstra has hit .375 with two home runs and five RBIs in five career games against the Panthers. Ocheltree has hit .375 with two doubles, two triples and four RBIs in four games against High Point. Dustin Hood has played in five games against HPU, hitting .333 with five RBIs. Woodall has faced the Panthers just twice, but he has gone a combined 4-for-8 with four runs scored.
On the mound,
Charlie Mellies has held High Point scoreless in two career appearances. Mellies faced the Panthers twice in 2004, holding them to just one hit in a combined 3.2 innings pitched.
Phil Negus pitched in both meetings in 2007, not allowing an earned run in 2.2 combined innings.
The Deacons have won six of the past seven meetings with the Panthers, dating back to the 2005 season.
Wake Forest returns to ACC play this weekend, hosting Virginia Tech in a three-game series. Saturday's game will be broadcast live on FSN. All three contests will be broadcast on 98.1 FM WBRF and at www.WakeForestSports.com.
