Wake Forest Denies Savannah State 85-41

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - The Wake Forest women's basketball team snapped a six-game dry spell with a decisive 85-41 victory over Savannah State on Thursday night at the Joel Coliseum.

Camille Collier poured in 21 points to the Demon Deacon (13-8) total, marking her second consecutive 20-plus point performance. Patrice Robinson led the Lady Tigers (9-11) with 12 points and nine rebounds.

Freshman Brittany Waters led the Deacons on the boards, pulling down a career-high eight rebounds.

Wake Forest forced a season-high 29 turnovers and capitalized on the Savannah State slip-ups with a whopping 32 points off Lady Tiger possession losses. Junior Alex Tchangoue helped the Demon Deacon attack, tying her career-high five steals mark.

After winning the opening tip-off, Savannah State struck first and led the Deacons 6-5 with 17:39 on the clock. Camille Collier then hit the first of her six 3-pointers to give Wake Forest an 8-6 advantage.

Wake Forest held on to the lead, and Corinne Groves ended the half with a jumper that set the Deacons up 42-28.

The Deacons charged out of the locker room and stunned the Tigers with a 20-2 run to open the half. Courteney Morris added seven of her game-total ten points during the spree to help Wake Forest capture a 33-point lead with 15 minutes to play.

Deacon performances off the bench tallied 20 points, including season-high carom and point totals from sophomore Jessie Cain (5 points, 6 boards) and Brittany Waters (9 points, 8 boards).
 

 

Wake Forest returns to conference action on Sunday in Raleigh, taking on the NC State Wolfpack at 12:30 p.m. The contest will be broadcast on FSN.
