The No. 10 Wake Forest women's golf team will travel to Baton Rouge for this weekend's LSU/Cleveland Classic to shoot for a second straight top 5 finish and a second team title of the 2007-08 season. This is the Demon Deacons' fourth appearance at the University Club since 2002.
"We're having good practice and we're ready to compete again," Wake Forest head coach Dianne Dailey said, referring to the three-week layoff the Deacs had since the Lady Gator Invitational.
Wake will send senior Laura Crawford, juniors Nannette Hill and Jean Chua, and freshmen Natalie Sheary and Allie Bodemann to compete against what Dailey called a "strong field."
The Deacs will face ACC foes Florida State, North Carolina, NC State and Virginia. No. 13 Georgia and No. 14 Alabama from the SEC round-out the 17-team field.
Wake has qualified for two NCAA Championships at the par-72, 6,411-yard University Club. Wake finished third in the NCAA East Regional last season and third in the regional of 2001-02 season. The third place finish in last season's regional marked the second time Wake played the course in the 2006-07 season.
In last year's East Regional, the Deacs placed two golfers in the top ten. Chua shot a career-low 69 in the final round to finish third and Hill placed eighth with a three-round total of 211 (-5).
Wake finished 7th of 21 in the team's first appearance in the LSU/Cleveland Classic last spring. Crawford and Dolores White finished tied for 36th after recording 12-over 228s. Chua finished tied for 49th after carding a 231 and Hill shot a 239 to land in a tie for 80th. Wake's Mandy Goins, who graduated last spring, shot a 219 to finish tied for eighth.
