Live Scoring
The No. 9 Wake Forest women's golf team faces an uphill climb in Sunday's final round after carding a 24-over 312 Saturday in the second round of the Liz Murphey Collegiate Classic in Athens, Ga.
The Deacs are 45-over after two rounds.
"The course is playing tough and the greens have really been hard," Wake Forest head coach Dianne Dailey said. "If you don't hit the middle of the greens here, you're rolling off and that's exposing some weaknesses in our short game."
Allie Bodemann was the only Deacon golfer near even-par Saturday as the freshman posted a three-over 75. Bodemann recorded one birdie and 12 pars on the day and is currently tied for 19th. If Bodemann can remain in the top 20 Sunday, it would be her third such finish of the season.
Nannette Hill recorded a 10-over 79 Saturday to fall from 11th into a tie for 22nd. The junior has finished in the top 20 three times on the year.
Laura Crawford led the squad in birdies for the second round with two but a double-bogey on hole one and consecutive bogeys on nine, 10 and 11 left the senior with a six-over 78 on the day. Crawford is currently tied for 41st and moved up six spots from Friday.
Natalie Sheary joins Crawford in 41st after posting an eight-over 80 on Saturday. The freshman was three-over after the front nine but double-bogeyed 11 and 16.
Junior Jean Chua landed in a tie for 82nd Saturday after shooting a nine-over 81.
Tournament host Georgia leads the field and broke out of a second-place tie after shooting a 12-over 300, the best round of the day. Purdue (+29) is second and Alabama (+33) is third.
Duke's Amanda Blumenherst and Purdue's Maude-Aimee Leblanc are tied for first in the race for individual honors after both recorded even-par 72s.
The Deacs will tee-off at 9 a.m. for Sunday's final round.
"We need to play a little bit smarter. Overall, we're not getting up and down like we want to," Dailey said. "But we're learning the course and hopefully, we can be sharper around the greens and make a run in the final round."
A high of 64 degrees and sunny skies has been projected tomorrow for Athens by weather.com.
