Round One Results in PDF Format 
ATHENS, GA. - The No. 14 Wake Forest women's golf team posted a 10-over 298 in the first round of the NCAA East Regional in Athens, Ga. to land in eighth place.
The Deacs are seeded fifth in the regional out of the 21 participating schools.
The top eight teams advance to the NCAA Championships at the University of New Mexico in Albuquerque, May 20-23.
Duke, the three-time defending national champions, leads the field after recording a three-under 285 Thursday. Second-place Florida is five strokes back at two over par. Virginia finished the first round 11 strokes off the lead after posting an eight-over 296.
Furman, the 12 seed, is surprising the field. The Paladins posted a four-over 292 to finish in sole possession of fourth place.
Wake, playing at the UGA Golf Course for the second time this season, is attempting to qualify for its third straight NCAA Championship.
"We have to play better tomorrow," Wake Forest head coach Dianne Dailey said. "We were doing fine until the last four holes. We need to start making some putts."
The Deacs were led Thursday by ACC Freshman of the Year Natalie Sheary, who carded an even-par 72 to tie for 10th place. Sheary has led the Deacs in five tournaments this season and is coming off a fifth-place finish at the ACC Championship.
Sheary leads Wake in scoring with a 74.1 stroke average per 18 holes.
Nannette Hill, who was named All-ACC Tuesday, was the second top finisher for the Deacs. Hill posted a two-over 74 in the first round to finish tied for 23rd heading into Friday's second round.
Hill, a junior, is second on the team with a 74.9 stroke average and has recorded three top 20 finishes on the season. The New York-native is participating in her third consecutive NCAA regional.
Hill led the Deacs to a third-place finish in last season's NCAA East Regional as she posted an eighth-place finish in Baton Rouge, La.
Jean Chua and Laura Crawford shot four-over 76s Thursday to finish the first round in a tie for 38th. Crawford, a senior, is playing in her fourth straight NCAA regional. Chua, a junior, is playing in her third consecutive regional.
Chua finished tied for 23rd last season in Baton Rouge.
Crawford's best finish in an NCAA regional was a tie for 41st in the 2005 Central Regional in Lubbock, Tex.
Freshman Allie Bodemann closed the Demon Deacon scoring with an eight-over 80. Bodemann is coming off an eighth-place finish at the ACC Championship and has recorded two top 10 finishes on the season.
Wake will tee-off on the par-72, 6,335-yard University of Georgia Golf Course at 1:20 p.m. for Friday's second round. The Deacs will be paired with Auburn and Tennessee.
A high of 85 degrees with mostly sunny skies and a 20 percent chance of rain has been projected for Athens Friday by Weather.com.
