WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. -
The Wake Forest volleyball team continued its strong tradition of giving back to the community by participating in Project D.E.S.K. on campus last month.
In its fifth year, the Discovering Education through Student Knowledge (D.E.S.K.) event was held on April 24 on Manchester Plaza. Varying groups from around the campus community came out to help elementary students design and decorate desks. Approximately sixty children from Old Town Elementary and Speas Elementary participated in the event.
The Demon Deacon volleyball team was one of six athletic squads to assist in the project. Other participants included student-athletes from the cross country, track & field, tennis, soccer and field hockey teams.
Under fourth-year head coach Heather Kahl Holmes, the Wake Forest volleyball team has made community service a priority. The Deacons have given their time for projects that include Campus Kitchen, Habitat ReStore, Project Pumpkin and Santa's Helpers, among numerous others.
