Men's Soccer Kicks Off 2008 Spring Slate Saturday

SEATTLE - Washington men's soccer will kick off its spring season, Saturday, March 1, hosting a pair of matches with Trinity Western at noon and the University of British Columbia at 2:30 p.m. Both contests will take place at Husky Soccer Field. Also on Saturday, Portland will be playing UBC (noon) and Trinity Western (2:30) at Husky Football Stadium. The Huskies' spring slate continues with a home contest versus the UW alumni on Friday, March 7, at 6 p.m. on the East End Practice Field. Washington will also take on professional A-league sides Portland Timbers and Seattle Sounders this spring, as well as the University of Portland, Seattle Pacific and Seattle University. The Huskies are coming off back-to-back trips to the second round of the NCAA Tournament, compiling an overall record of 9-8-4 in 2007. Leading the way for UW will be junior midfielders George John and Raphael Cox, both named to the 2007 All-Pac-10 first and second-teams, respectively. Other top returners include sophomore defender Casey Cunningham and freshman midfielder Matt Van Houten.
