Daugherty Talks About a Healthy Heart

June 2, 2008

SPOKANE, Wash. - Washington State women's basketball Head Coach June Daugherty will serve as a guest speaker Wednesday, at "Getting to the Heart of the Matter," a seminar for medical professionals put on by Team Up for Sudden Cardiac Arrest Awareness and sponsored by St. Jude Medical Center.

Daugherty, a survivor of sudden cardiac arrest, will tell her story in conjunction with an educational tutorial for obstetrician/gynecologists at the Davenport Hotel.

"OBGYNs have the closest connection with women of any medical field, thus are in a position to have the most impact to teach and help watch for signs of potential heart problems," spokesman Ryan Schaefer said.

For more information, contact Ryan Schaefer at 509-939-6387.

Team Up For Sudden Cardiac Arrest is a local volunteer group working in conjunction with a 501 C3 organization that focuses on SCA prevention and early intervention. They strive to educate individuals of risk factors and ensure all victims of SCA have prompt access to life saving therapies through CPR and public access to defibrillators. Plans are to affiliate with the nationally recognized Sudden Cardiac Arrest Association.
