Cullowhee, N.C. -
Western Carolina will host its third-straight basketball double-header on Monday evening in the Ramsey Center. The Lady Catamounts welcome in arch-rival Appalachian State looking for the seasonal sweep of the Mountaineers, while the Catamount men host Chattanooga in a Southern Conference North Division showdown.
The women's game will tip at 5:00 pm on Monday, with the men's game to follow 30 minutes after the conclusion of the women's game.
Both games will be broadcast by the Catamount Sports Network. The women's game will be heard on WWCU-FM, Power 90dot5 in Cullowhee and online at www.WWCUFM.com. WWCU will also carry the men's game, with fans also being able to tune into 680 AM WRGC in Sylva (www.WRGC.com).
Fans can also follow the action with live GameTracker -- presented by CarolinaWest Sports Medicine and the WestCare Health System -- or with live streaming video, both available at www.CatamountSports.com. (subscription required for streaming video feed).
Western Carolina student groups are encouraged to attend Monday night's game for a chance to win a FREE big screen television. The student group with the most in attendance -- and showing the most spirit -- will have a chance to win the prize.
The Lady Catamounts (16-6, 8-2 SoCon) are coming off one of their more impressive showings of the season after dismantling the Davidson Wildcats, 80-57, Saturday afternoon in the Ramsey Center. WCU shot 47-percent from the field and held Davidson to 34-percent while also holding the Wildcats without a second chance point. Also, Western Carolina had its bench account for 48 of its 80 points in the contest.
The Lady Cats also had 51 rebounds in the game, the second straight game the team has pulled down 50 or more rebounds.
Western pulled away from its arch-rival Appalachian State in Boone back on Jan. 7 for a 24-point, 87-63, win over the Mountaineers. Seniors Chevon Keith and Jessika Johnson each scored career-highs in the win, its sixth-straight over ASU.
Tip-off is set for 5:00 pm.
Western Carolina vs. Chattanooga - Game Notes
The Catamount men are also coming off an impressive showing, falling in the closing seconds Saturday to Appalachian State, 69-64, in front of the largest home crowd of the season. Western led much of the affair with their rivals, but the Mountaineers managed to score eight of their final 11 points from the free throw line to pull out the win.
Sophomore guard Brandon Giles has posted 12-straight, double-digit scoring outings to lead WCU, pushing his season scoring average to 15 points per game. Senior Negus McKenna continued his hot shooting as of late. The Montreal, Quebec native has hit 16 of his last 21 3-point attempts (76.2-percent) to currently lead the SoCon.
Western fell by 30 points at Chattanooga back on Jan. 12. Cold shooting, coupled with a decisive rebounding edge by the Mocs ended with an 85-55 decision. Yet, WCU has played its best basketball at home this season with five of its seasonal wins coming inside the friendly confines of the Ramsey Center.
The men's game will follow 30 minutes following the women's contest.
