Kiawah Island, S.C. - Western Carolina's men's and women's golf teams each slipped into sixth place after Monday's second round at the Cuthbert Cup held on the Osprey Point and Cougar Point Golf Courses. WCU junior Andres Cuenca fell from first into a tie for fourth, five strokes off the pace, while sophomore Desiree Karlsson is in the clubhouse three strokes back, tied for third entering Tuesday's third round.

Due to the threat of impending weather, the final round has been changed to a shotgun start by tournament officials with teams teeing off at 8:15 am on Tuesday morning.

On the men's side, WCU, which led after the opening 18 holes, stands just six strokes in arrears of both UNC Wilmington and Washington State (579) after carding a team 293 on Monday. Host College of Charleston is third one stroke back at 580, followed by Maryland (581) and Richmond (582) rounding out the top five.

Cuenca, who ranks tied for third with nine birdies, shot 75 in the second round to slip into a tie for fourth in the standings at 142. Senior Matt Cook rallied with a two-under, 70, on Tuesday to move into a tie for 22nd with freshman teammate, Caleb Marsh (73-74=147). Rounding out Western's scorers were junior Dustin Funari in a tie for 33rd at with a two-day total of 150 and sophomore Ricky Stout tied for 47th at 153.

In the women's tournament, first-round leader College of Charleston continues to lead by three strokes over UNC Wilmington, 586-to-583. Maryland (593) stands third followed by East Tennessee State (596) and Miami (FL) in at an even 600.

Karlsson, who was in a four-way tie for first-place on Sunday, is in a five-way tie for third after Monday's second round three-strokes back at 145 to lead the Catamounts, many of which were battling flu-like symptoms. Freshman Josefine Sundh, playing on her birthday, shot a second-round 76 to stand tied for 10th, three strokes behind her fellow countryman.

Rounding out WCU's scorers were freshman Katja Dammann in a tie for 26th (74-78=152), sophomore Elin Mickelsson in a tie for 43rd (79-77=156) and senior Kandy Carland in 67th.

In a twist unique to the Cuthbert Cup, both the men's and women's teams will be paired together in Tuesday's final round.
