Greenville, S.C. - Western Carolina carded a seven-over, 295, as a team on Friday to stand in sixth-place at the Furman Intercollegiate being played on the par 72, 6,800-yard Furman University Golf Course. Senior Matt Cook and sophomore Ricky Stout led the Catamounts, each carding opening rounds of one-over, 73, to be in the clubhouse tied for 17th.

Second round action is slated to get underway at 8:00 am on Saturday morning with final round play slated for 8:00 am on Sunday.

Led by first-round leader, Jonathan Hodge, with a three-under 69, nationally-ranked Chattanooga sits atop the leader board with a one-under, 287, as a team to hold a three-stroke advantage over second place South Carolina (290). Palmetto State rival, Clemson, sits third with an opening day 292, followed by Vanderbilt (293) in fourth and Ohio State rounding out the top five, one stroke ahead of WCU in fifth at 294.

Francis Marion's Peter McGibney is one stroke in arrears of first-round leader, Hodge, while also holding a one-stroke advantage on an eight-way tie for third.

Western Carolina was the second-best Southern Conference school behind UTC. Other conference foes competing on the weekend are Furman (T-8th), Davidson (13th), Elon (T-16th), Appalachian State (T-20th) and Wofford (T-22nd).

For Western, junior Andres Cuenca shot an opening round two-over, 74, to stand tied for 42nd while classmate Dustin Furnari fired 75 to enter the second round tied for 42nd. Rounding out WCU's scorers for the day was freshman Caleb Marsh with an eight-over, 80 (T-102nd).

The Catamounts will begin teeing off at 1:00 pm tomorrow afternoon beginning with Marsh, with Cook slated to take to the course at 1:40 pm - all going off the first tee.
