Western Carolina Volleyball Sweeps Competition in Spring Tournament

ANDERSON, S.C. - Western Carolina volleyball began steps for the 2008 season with the first tournament of the Catamount's spring season Saturday. The squad swept the competition at Anderson University, defeating host Anderson and Limestone College.

The format of the day was a pair of matches with a set time of 25 minutes and the second set of matches at 35 minutes. Western Carolina defeated Anderson 41-22 in the first timed match and 50-38 in the second frame. The Catamounts also defeated Limestone 28-15 and 54-36.

"I was very excited with the play of the team this weekend," said Head Coach Stephanie Dragan. "We competed hard in the tournament and a lot of players saw time on the court."

Kara Lynzee Brooks led the Catamounts with a total of 27 kills and Jelena Jakovljevic added 24. Liz McLauchlin had eight aces and Liz Rondone added six.

Western Carolina will host a round-robin spring tournament April 5. The matches begin at 10 a.m. in the Ramsey Center.
