MADISON, Wisc. - Colorado College defenseman Jack Hillen, who production four scoring points in the Tigers' 5-2 victory over visiting Minnesota State last weekend, has been named Red Baron® WCHA Offensive Player of the Week for March 4-10.

A 5-10, 192-pound senior from Minnetonka, Minn., Hillen is now the top scoring defenseman in both the nation (men's Div. 1 hockey) and the WCHA with 32 points and also leads the WCHA in assists this season with 27.

He factored in on four of CC's five goals against the Mavericks on Feb. 29 at the Colorado Springs World Arena as the No. 5-ranked Tigers overcame a 2-0 deficit. He assisted on teammate Chad Rau's first period power-play goal, scored a game-tying power-play goal at 0:25 of the second period, set up teammate Scott McCulloch's eventual game-winner at 16:53 of period two, and then gave CC a two-goal cushion with his fifth tally of the season at 13:26 of the third.

In addition to his four points, Hillen also had seven shots on goal in the series.

Colorado College (24-9-1), leading the WCHA by two points with two games to go, closes out the regular season portion of their schedule this weekend with a March 7-8 home-and-home set against arch-rival University of Denver.

MADISON, Wisc. - Goaltender Jean-Philippe Lamoureux, who backstopped his University of North Dakota men's hockey team to a pair of league road victories at Minnesota Duluth last weekend and in to the nation's No. 1 ranking, has been named Red Baron® WCHA Defensive Player of the Week for March 4-10. He also earned the weekly honor on Dec. 4 (vs DU).

A 5-8, 152-pound senior from Grand Forks, N.D., Lamoureux led the red-hot Fighting Sioux to the only series sweep in WCHA play while extending their nation's best unbeaten streak to 15 games (14-0-1). In the process, he stopped 50 of 51 UMD shots on goal for a .980 series saves percentage, blanked the Bulldogs on all eight of their power-play chances, and recording six shutout periods - including the one overtime.

In North Dakota's 2-0 victory last Saturday (March 1) afternoon, Lamoureux stopped all 28 shots on goal - including seven on the power-play - in recording his fifth shutout of the season and held UMD scoreless on four power-play attempts. Lamoureux then came back last Sunday (March 2) afternoon to complete the conference sweep with a 22-save, 2-1 overtime victory over the Bulldogs, again blanked them on all four man-advantage opportunities.

Lamoureux's efforts in those two wins enabled him to take over the top spot among all men's Div. 1 goaltenders in goal-against average this season at 1.68, and he now ranks second nationally in saves percentage at .934. His record is 22-8-2.

Top-ranked North Dakota (23-8-2) closes out the regular season portion of its schedule this Friday and Saturday with a WCHA set against No. 11-ranked St. Cloud State at Ralph Engelstad Arena.

Red Baron® WCHA Rookie of the Week

MADISON, Wisc. - University of Minnesota goaltender Alex Kangas, who helped his team to three key points on the road at Alaska Anchorage last weekend, has been named Red Baron® WCHA Rookie of the Week for March 4-10. He previously won the weekly honor on Jan. 22 (vs UMD).

A 6-2, 195-pound freshman from Rochester, Minn., Kangas stopped 26 shots in each game of the Feb. 29-March 1 series, recording a .945 series saves percentage, as the visiting Golden Gophers posted a 2-2 overtime tie and 4-1 victory against the Seawolves at Sullivan Arena in Anchorage. The three points enabled Minnesota to stay in the hunt for a home WCHA playoff berth.

A draftee of the Atlanta Thrashers (NHL), Kangas also blanked Alaska Anchorage on all 10 of its series power-play attempts.

Kangas has now started 12 consecutive games for the Golden Gophers and has a 1.84 goals-against average and a .932 saves percentage while producing a 3-3-6 record over that span.

No. 14-ranked Minnesota (14-13-9) plays host to No. 18 Minnesota Duluth Friday and Saturday in the teams' regular season finales at Mariucci Arena.
