Mankato, Minn. -- Men's hockey coach Troy Jutting has announced that two student-athletes have signed a NCAA Letters of Intent to attend Minnesota State University.
Joining the Mavericks this fall will be forwards Justin Jokinen (Carlton, Minn.) and Tyler Thompson (Wayzata, Minn.).
A team captain for Cloquet in 2007-08, Jokinen tallied 22 goals and had 21 assists for 43 points. He was selected to the CCM All-Star game and was a state of Minnesota Mr. Hockey finalist. Rated 60th by Central Scouting in its mid-term rankings, Jokinen led Cloquet to a Minnesota high school state tournament appearance this year. He had 25 goals and 26 assists as a junior and led the section in scoring.
Thompson comes to MSU after apprenticing at Cedar Rapids of the United State Hockey League the past two years. Listed at #149 by Central Scouting in its mid-term rankings, Thompson had 20 goals and 24 assists for 44 points in 55 games with the Roughriders in 2007-08. He had 8-9-17 in 37 games in 2006-07 with Cedar Rapids. Thompson played two years at Benilde-St. Margaret's High School prior to joining Cedar Rapids and had 29-29-58 in 27 games as a junior and 3-8-11 in 27 games as a sophomore.
