Minnesota State Wins Third Straight.

Feb. 9, 2008

Mankato, Minn. - The Minnesota State University women's hockey team won its third consecutive game with a 3-1 victory against Bemidji State University. Senior forward Amanda Stohr (South Saint Paul, Minn.) scored twice, including the game-winning goal. The three-game winning streak is the longest of the season.

The first period was scoreless with the two teams each getting nine shots on goal.

At 14:31 of the second period, freshman forward Lisa Edman (Ornskoldsvik, Sweden) scored on a one-timer from sophomore forward Christina Lee (Maple Plain, Minn.). Freshman forward Nina Tikkinen (Salo, Finland) also earned a helper on the play.

Tara Hiscock of BSU scored a shorthanded goal at 8:06 of the third period to tie the game 1-1. It was the fourth shorthanded goal MSU has relinquished this season. The last time it happened was Nov. 24, 2007 against Minnesota Duluth.

Stohr scored the game-winning goal at 9:27 of the third period on a rebound. Sophomore forward Kala Buganski (Andover, Minn.) earned an assist.

Stohr tallied her fifth goal of the season and second of the game on an empty net goal at 19:44. Senior goaltender Britni Kehler (Mitchell, Man.) was credited with just her second career assist.

Kehler made 32 saves in her ninth win of the season.

MSU was 0-6 on the power play with 10 shots and BSU was 0-2 with three shots. The final shot total was 33-32 in favor of the Beavers. MSU moves to 5-6-0 at home. They are 7-5-1 when scoring first this season. Buganski extended her scoring streak to four games, tying the longest streak by a Maverick this season.

Minnesota State (9-17-1, 8-14-1) completes the series with BSU tomorrow at 3:07 p.m.
