UWF Women's Track Team Finishes Third at the Disney Relays

ORLANDO, Fla. - The University of West Florida competed in its first track meet of the season, at the Disney Relays located in Orlando, Florida. The West Florida women placed 3rd out of five teams, missing 2nd place by one point.

The 1500m race was won by Sunsea Shaw of Northern Illinois University in 4:56.36. Senior Diana Sitar was the first Argo with a time of 5:08.3 to finish in 2nd place. Senior Rebecca Thielemann turned in a 7th place finish with a time of 5:43.97, and Freshman Ceressa Obluck finished in 11th place overall with a time of 6:38.47.

Kiana Overton established a UWF school record in the 400m hurdles with a time of 1:13.5, finishing in 5th place overall. The winner of that race was Carolyn Vasquez of Northern Illinois University with a time of 1:05.2. Freshman Ceressa Obluck ran the 3000m steeplechase with a time of 16:30.9 finishing in 2nd place. The 1st place finisher in the steeplechase was Alice Henley of Nova Southeastern with 13:00.98.

The UWF women competed in the 4x400m relay with two different squads, finishing in 3rd and 4th places respectively. The race was won by Northern Illinois in 4:04.86. West Florida's A team finished in 3rd place with 4:33.82, and the B team placed 4th with 4:44.28.

The Argos took first place in the 4x800m with a time of 10:19.67. The Argo's B team also placed 3rd overall with a time of 10:59.22.

Northern Illinois won the 4x1600m relay with a time of 22:10.13, while UWF teams placed 2nd and 4th with times of 23:23.45 and 25:03.3.

The distance medley relay was won by Northern Illinois in 13:46.05. The Argo's A team took 2nd with 14:01.37, while the B team finished in 4th place with a time of 14:50.21, and the C team finished in 5th with a time of 15:08.1.

In the field events, Bryn Renda set a UWF school record in the discus with a throw of 41.03m. She placed 2nd overall, while the winner was Ron-Danielle Williams of Bethune Cookman with a throw of 43.35m. Meanwhile, Kiana Overton competed in the long jump but fouled out, and did not place.
