TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - The UWF Women's track and field team competed in the predominately Division I field at the Seminole Invitational meet of the season this past week in Tallahassee. Florida State University hosted the Seminole invitational where some of the Argonauts improved their personal bests, in competition against some of the top Division I athletes attempting to qualify for the National Meet.
Bryn Renda, was the only Argo to compete in the field events, and she finished in 4th place in the women's discus with a throw of 34.54m. The event was won by Allyn Laughlin, of Florida State, with a distance of 39.81m.
On the track, Junior Margaret Harter raced in the 800 meter run. She posted a time of 2:28.17, finishing in 17th place. The race was won by Stephanie Jones-Dubose of Southern Miss with 2:18.37.
Freshman Erika Anderson competed in the 3000 meter run, finishing in 13th place with a time of 11:42.23. The winner was Jolene Williams running for Jacksonville University, in a time of 9:42.43.
The Argos took 9th place (Shannon McDougall) and 15th place (Lindsey Failing) in the women's 5000m. MdDougall ran a personal best time of 19:46.16, and Failing ran a 22:09.23. Christine Woytalewicz of Florida State won in 17:21.04.
On the men's side, the Argos Cross Country team competed in some distance events, as part of their spring schedule of events. Freshman Nicholas Farrington ran the 1500m and the 3000m. Farrington finished the 1500m in a time of 4:22.06, placing 26th. Gareth Turnball running unattached, took the win with a 3:44.01. The 3000m was won by Rabah Syed of Georgia State in just 8:40.59. Nicholas Farrington ran a respectable 9:42.45 to take 13th place.
Junior Justin Gates finished in 8th place in the men's 5000m, while also producing a personal best time of 15:50.07. Vincent Tanui of Southern Miss took the victory with a time of 14:46.04.
