LAKELAND, Fla. - The West Florida Baseball team had matched the offensive prowess of Florida Southern during the first two games of the three game series, but were shut-out 9-0 in the second game of Saturday's double-header. The Argos could only muster three hits after pounding out 22 hits in the first two games of the series. West Florida lost for the fourth consecutive game, after starting the season with two wins.
Florida Southern starter Brad Davidson shut down the Argos on three hits, as he recorded a complete game shutout with nine strikeouts. Jon Reed, Steven Bingert, and Greg Pron had the only hits for UWF, while Kyle Andrews, who walked and stole second base, was one of the few Argos in scoring position. West Florida relievers David Pedro and Curtis Teare pitched a strong 3 1/3 innings of scoreless relief, while starter Billy Whitaker took the loss for the Argos.
With the doubleheader sweep by Florida Southern, West Florida dropped to 2-4 on the season, while the highly ranked Mocs improved to 4-3 on the young season. The Argos travel to St. Leo for a single game on Sunday, and return home next Friday to take on Alabama Huntsville at Pelican Park.
