PENSACOLA, Fla. - Jon Sintes and Nick Presley combined on a four hitter, while striking out eight batters, to shut down Flagler College Saturday afternoon. The win snapped a six game losing streak, in which the Argos pitching struggled. The Argos bats continued to sizzle, as Kyle Andrews and Brandon Brewer led the way combining for five hits, two runs, and three runs batted in.
Head Coach Mike Jeffcoat was pleased with the win, "It was good to get a win. Even better, it was great to see a very efficient game today, we made no errors, and the pitching and defense today was very solid. Good pitching and defense will give us a great chance to win a lot of games this year. This game could get us started on a string of wins to head into conference play."
West Florida jumped on top with two runs in the first inning, as Craig Westcott doubled to move Greg Pron to third base. Moments later, Scott Beckwith drilled a line drive just inside the left field line and the Argos were ahead 2-0. In the second inning, Brewer and Andrews hit consecutive singles, and Brewer scored on an error, and Andrews came home on Pron's double. West Florida increased the lead to 5-0 with a single run in the bottom of the fourth inning, as Andrews drove home Jimmy Boswell, who started the inning with a single.
Starting pitcher Jon Sintes (1-1) cruised thru six innings allowing only one run on two hits. Flagler scored one run in the sixth inning, as Sintes walked three batters in the inning. Reliever Nick Presley pitched the final three innings for the save, and gave up only a single run in the ninth, as he gave up two hits in ninth, after combining with Sintes to allow only two hits in the first eight innings.
The Argos scored an insurance run in the eighth inning, as Greg Burkel and Brewer each had doubles in the inning. West Florida improved to 3-6 on the season with the win, and will host Georgia Southwestern at Pelican Park on Sunday evening at 5:00 pm. Flagler College dropped to 3-8 on the season, despite a complete game pitching outing from starter Austin Donmoyer. In all, the Argos hit four doubles and stole three bases in the game today. Jimmy Boswell had two of the stolen bases for the Argos.
