PENSACOLA, Fla. - The Argonaut baseball won their third game in a row, and completed a doubleheader sweep of the Golden Bears from Miles College, with an 18-2 victory. Craig Westcott capped the evening with Grand Slam in the sixth inning. Meanwhile, Jimmy Boswell, Kyle Brown, and Kevin Mierzwinski each had three hits for the Argos, who improved to 5-6 on the season.
Miles College scored first with a single run in the top of the first, but the lead didn't last long, as UWF scored six runs in the bottom of the first inning. Run scoring singles by Mierzwinski and Eric Kroll started the scoring, and then an RBI double by Brown, followed by a two run single by Brandon Brewer.
West Florida's bats continue to heat up, as the Argos scored three more runs in the second inning, followed by four in the third and led 13-2. Meanwhile, Starting Pitcher Matt Collins earned the win by scattering five hits over his four innings of work. Collins struck out three, and did not walk a batter, as he gave up just two runs. Shane Greene pitched the final three innings, allowing just one hit and one walk, while striking out six Golden Bears.
Greg Pron scored four times for the Argos, while also driving in two runs. West Florida pounded out six extra base hits, including five doubles and the Grand Slam. Kyle Brown and Kyle Andrews had two doubles apiece. Kevin Mierzwinski drove in three runs, and also scored three times. Meanwhile, Greg Pron and Jimmy Boswell each recorded a stolen base in the contest. The Argos played flawless defense for the second time in three games.
West Florida pitching has only allowed four runs in the last three games, which were all victories for the Argos. West Florida will host a four game series next weekend, as Quincy College is in town for a Friday, Saturday, and Sunday games at Pelican Park. Friday's game begins at 5:00 pm, while Saturday is a scheduled doubleheader beginning at 1:00 pm. Sunday's series finale also begins at 1:00 pm.
