PENSACOLA, Fla. - West Florida (6-6) opened their double header with a 5-2 game one victory over Quincy University (0-1) on Saturday afternoon at Pelican Park on the UWF Campus.
The Argonauts cracked the scored board first with an unearned run coming after the Hawks failed to turn a double play and Kyle Andrews was able to cross home after opening the bottom half of the inning with a single through the right side of the infield.
Qunicy answered back with a run in the top half of the second on a ground out to short stop driving in the runner from third.
West Florida retook the lead with a pair of run in the third. Craig Westcott singled to start the inning and after Greg Pron was hit by a pitch Kevin Mierzwinski double down the left field line driving in Westcott. Jon Reed followed with a single to left field driving in Pron ngiving the Argonauts a 3-1 lead.
West Florida added to their lead in the fifth inning when Reed hit his first home run of the season a deep shot over the right center field fence.
The Hawks cut into the Argonauts lead with on a Tony Gliffe home run in the seventh inning but it was not enough, and West Florida added an insurance run in the bottom of the eighth inning when Greg Pron hit a solo home run to left.
Kyle Ramsey (1-2) picked up his first win of the season tossing seven solid innings allowing only two runs on seven hits while striking out six and walking none, and Sixto Velasaco walked two and struck out two batters in the ninth inning en route to his second save of the season.
Reed collected three hits in the game and as did lead off hitter Kyle Andrews.
