PENSACOLA, Fla. - In the night cap West Florida (7-6) outlasted Quincy (0-2) in extra innings and a ninth inning walk off single by pinch hitter Steven Bingert drove in Greg Pron from third giving West Florida the double header sweep over Quincy.
In a pitchers duel both starters Jon Sintes of West Florida and Brian Schmelter of Quincy went the scheduled seven innings and with the game tied at 1-1 the game was turned over to the bullpens.
The Argonauts were able to put up their first run in the fourth inning. Craig Westcott led off the inning with a double off the top of the center field wall and advanced to third on a Scott Beckwith flyout. The next batter Pron drove in Westcott on an infield single to short.
The Hawks answered with a run in their next at bat in the top of the fifth. After a hit batter and sacrifice bunt put a runner in scoring position. Following an Argos fielding error put the tying run on third, a softly hit ground out to first allowed the run to score.
Niether team was able to cross the plate again until the bottom of the ninth. Pron led off the inning with a walked and stole second to advance into scoring position. After a gently hit infield single by pinch hitter Jimmy Boswell placed runners on the corners, Bingert chopped a shot over the head of the Hawks third basemen driving in the winning run.
Shane Green collected the win with two innings of shut out work in relief of Jon Sintes who went seven innings without allowing an unearned run. Sintes struck out seven batters and gave up only one hit, while Green struck out three and allowed only one hit. Pron not only scored the game winning run but drove in the only other Argonauts run of the game on a single in the fourth inning.
West Florida will play a double header on Sunday beginning at 1 p.m. after their Friday night game was rained out.
