PENSACOLA, Fla. - The University of West Florida Baseball team lost 9-2 at home on Tuesday, to end a seven game winning streak that had seen the Argos outscore their opponents 68-17. After some outstanding pitching this past week, the Argos pitching staff struggled on Tuesday, and gave up 13 hits and two home runs against Northwest Missouri State.
Matt Collins pitched three and two third innings for UWF giving up three earned runs on six hits, one walk, while striking out three, and hitting two batters. Todd Stannard stepped in relief for four innings and gave up two earned runs on three hits, with one walk, and two strikeouts. Sixto Velasco and Harrison Szuch finished the game for the Argos combining for one and a third innings, giving up three earned runs on four hits.
Northwest Missouri scored three runs in the first inning on a three run homer off the bat of Britt Westman, which scored Ryan Bledsoe and Nick Pfeiffer. The 3-0 score would hold until the bottom of the third inning.
Craig Westcott made it a 3-2 game in the bottom of the third with a two run home run deep to centerfield, which was his third home run this season. Kyle Brown scored on the home run after reaching base on a hard hit single at the pitcher. Brown was 2 for 3 for the game and was the only Argo with multiple hits.
The Bearcats added one in the fourth when Ryan Bledsode scored from third base on a wild pitch. The Bearcats scored one in the sixth on a Nick Pfeiffer single, scoring Tim Avants who was pinch running for Bill Disselhoff. Pfeiffer was 3 for 4 offensively for Northwest Missouri State.
West Florida drops to 9-7 on the season, and will host a double header Wednesday against the Bearcats who are 3-3 on the young season. The first game is scheduled for 3:30 pm, with game two to follow 30 minutes after the conclusion of the first game. The game is at Pelican Park, and is the 10tth and 11th games of a 17 game homestand for the Argos.
