PENSACOLA, Fla. - The West Florida baseball team fell to 9-8 on the season, with their second straight loss to Northwest Missouri State. The Argos had 10 hits in the contest, while the Bearcats only had four hits, but made the most of them in a 4-2 win over West Florida. Starting pitcher Curtis Teare gave up two runs in the first and pitched well into the fourth inning, but left with no run support and took the loss. This was the first game of a day /night doubleheader, with both games scheduled for seven innings.
In the first inning Bearcats put two base runners on with a walk and a hit batter, and then with two outs, completed a double steal to put them in scoring position. Both runners scored on a single, and then Northwest Missouri State added single runs in the fourth and fifth innings, on just one hit and an Argo error in each inning, to take a 4-0 lead into the final two innings.
West Florida scored two runs in the bottom of the sixth inning, which came on an Eric Kroll double, and a Kevin Mierzwinski single; however, the Bearcats closer Evan Nickell shut down the Argos in the seventh inning to save the win for starting pitcher Bill Disselhoff.
Kyle Andrews, Scott Beckwith, Kroll, and Mierzwinski each had a pair of hits in the game, while pitchers Curtis Teare and Harrison Szuch combined to allow only four hits, but the Bearcats made the most of them. Kyle Brown and Greg Burkel also had hits for UWF, while Greg Pron and Kroll scored the Argos runs.
Game two of the doubleheader followed game one, and the Argos were looking to get back on the winning track, after dropping the first two games of the series vs. the bearcats.
