PENSACOLA, Fla. - The West Florida baseball team scored five runs in the first inning, and then coasted to a 10 run rule win over West Division for Harding. In the two game series, the Argos scored 26 runs against the Bison to improve to 11-12 on the season. Craig Westcott led the Argo hitting attack with four hits and four runs scored, while Jimmy Boswell added four RBI's, on a pair of singles.
Solid pitching from Curtis Teare earned him the win, and Kyle Ramsey was credited with the save for pitching the final three innings. The two pitchers combined to allow only eight hits, and with the solid defensive stance from the outfield and the infield, they only allowed the Bisons to get on the board with four runs.
UWF scored five runs in the first and eighth innings of play against the Bisons, with Craig Westcott and Greg Pron leading the way. Westcott was 4-5 on the day, and was pleased with his effort. "I finally went out, put my shoulder in, and was able to hit the ball to the opposite side of the field," Westcott said. "I can't wait to play Delta State this weekend."
Meanwhile, Greg Pron, who still hadn't cooled off from yesterday, despite the temperature dropping to the 40's, kept cranking hits out like a batting machine on Wednesday. "I've just been trying to put the ball in play," Pron said. "I've been seeing the ball real well lately, and we feel ready for DSU coming up."
Head Coach Mike Jeffcoat was pleased with his team effort, and was already thinking ahead to the games in Mississippi. "We have been trying to take advantage of hitting with our runners in position to score," Jeffcoat said. "We finally got it done these last two games, and our pitching and defense were both pretty solid today. We have a strong chance to beat Delta State if we play our game and stay focused."
The Argos will travel to Cleveland, Mississippi for a double-header on Saturday against West Division powerhouse, Delta State. They will play one more on Sunday before they head back home.
