MONTEVALLO, Ala. - The Argos rallied from down 7-1 and 11-4 to get within one run with no outs in the seventh inning, but the rally stopped there and the Argos settled for a split with Montevallo to start conference play. West Florida took game one 14-1, and nearly rallied for the sweep, but fell one run short. Jackson Woodard homered with no one out in the seventh to close the score to 12-11, but Montevallo (18-10, 1-1) survived by getting the next three Argos out.
The Argos scored first when Greg Pron drove in Kyle Andrews in the first inning. Montevallo tied the score in the bottom of the first, and then scored six runs in the second on four hits, three walks, and two Argo errors. West Florida kept battling back, with one run in the fourth, two runs in the fifth, five runs in the sixth, and two runs in the seventh, but fell one run short.
Matt Collins started for the Argos, but couldn't get thru the second inning, and took the loss to drop to 1-4 on the season. Greg Pron led the Argos offensively with three hits and four RBI's, while Jackson Woodard added a two run homer, and scored on two other occasions. Kyle Andrews scored three times without a hit, as he reached base on two walks and a fielder's choice. Brandon Brewer had two hits for UWF, which had 10 hits as a team, equaling Montevallo.
The Argos record with the doubleheader split, is now 12-15 on the year, and 1-1 in conference play. The series finale is tomorrow at Johnson Field in Montevallo, with the game broadcast on Stretch Internet.
