Carrollton, Ga. - West Florida, the 2007 reigning Gulf South Conference champions stayed alive in the conference hunt for a tournament berth by rallying for five runs in the sixth inning of game two at West Georgia to pull out an 11-9 win. The Argos dropped the first game by a 3-2 score. The split left West Florida at 4-5 in conference play, while West Georgia is 3-3. Scott Beckwith had three hits and three RBI's, while Brandon Brewer drove in two runs for the Argos in the game two win.

In game two, with the Argos trailing 9-6, going into the top of the sixth inning, the offense cranked it up a notch to take the lead and hang on for the win. Kyle Andrews led off with a single, and pinch hitter Jon Reed followed with a single to get the inning started. Reed and Andrews pulled off a double steal to get into scoring position. Greg Pron then singled to score Andrews and put runners on the corners. After West Georgia made a pitching change, Scott Beckwith singled in Reed to make the score 9-8. After Gregg Burkel walked to load the bases, Jimmy Boswell tied the score with a single up the middle.

West Florida would then take the lead on a sacrifice fly by Eric Kroll. With two outs, Brandon Brewer tacked on an insurance run with a single to the right side. Argo relief pitcher Sixto Velasco shut down the Wolves in the final two innings to earn the win and improve to 1-1 on the year.

The Argos jumped on top with a five run second inning. Eric Kroll walked and Steven Bingert singled to start the inning. After Brandon Brewer was hit by a pitch, the bases were loaded, and Kyle Andrews responded with a single to center field, for a 1-0 lead. Kyle Brown followed with a beautiful bunt single to score the next run, and then a West Georgia error allowed the third run to score. Scott Beckwith then doubled to plate two more runs.

West Georgia answered with one run in the bottom of the second, and four in the third inning to tie the game. West Florida scored one run in the fifth inning to take a 6-5 lead, when Brandon Brewer singled in Jimmy Boswell, who had singled to start the inning. In the bottom of the fifth, West Georgia erupted for four runs to take a three run lead, and set the stage for the five run sixth inning rally for UWF.

The win improved the Argos to 16-22 on the year, while West Georgia is 24-9 on the season. The Argos are at home on Monday and Tuesday against Stillman College with a single game Monday night at 6:00pm, and a doubleheader on Tuesday beginning at 1:00 pm.
