PENSACOLA, Fla. - The West Florida baseball team spotted the opponent a sizeable lead early for the fourth straight game, but this time the Stillman College pitching tandem of Wright and White shut down UWF with 12 strikeouts. The Argos managed eight hits, just as the Tigers did, but couldn't make the most of them in the 6-4 loss. Harrison Szuch started for UWF and took the loss, while the Argos fell to 18-23 on the season. Despite the loss, the Argos took two of three games in the series with Stillman.
Stillman scored five runs in the first four innings, and the Argos couldn't get on the board until the fourth inning when Kyle Brown batted in Scott Beckwith who had made it to third base, after his lead off double. The Tigers would add a sixth run in the top of the fifth inning for a 6-1 lead. This time the deficit would not be overcome by the Argo offense.
During the fifth inning, the Argos mounted an admirable rally, and scored three runs, beginning with Craig Westcott batting in Kyle Andrews, who had led off the inning with a double. Moments later, Jimmy Boswell hit a double allowing Kevin Mierzwinski to score, and then Westcott sneaked home after a passed ball got through the Tigers catcher. This would end the Argos scoring, and prevent a fourth straight come from behind win.
Craig Westcott, Kyle Andrews, and Scott Beckwith each had two hits for UWF, while Westcott and Jon Sintes combined to pitch the final five innings, only allowing three hits, but the damage was done early, and the Argso couldn't overcome. The win for Stillman improved the Tigers to 5-10 on the season.
The Argos will travel to Livingston, Alabama this weekend to take on another group of Tigers, at the University of West Alabama. The Argos will play a three game series with the 8th ranked Tigers on Saturday and Sunday. All three games will be broadcast on Stretch Internet.
