Argos Drop Second Straight Game to West Alabama 9-3

LIVINGSTON, Ala. - West Florida, the reigning Gulf South Conference Champions, dropped the opening game of a doubleheader to West Alabama at Tartt Field in Livingston, Ala., by a 9-3 score on Sunday. The loss dropped the Argos to 18-25 on the season, and 4-7 in conference play. The Tigers outhit the Argos 10-7 and raced out to a 5-1 lead and hung on for the win. Jon Sintes suffered the loss, despite only giving up five hits in five innings.

The Argos' Jon Reed hit a home run and a double, and scored twice, while Craig Westcott had three hits on the day. Reed's home run was his fourth of the season. However, the Tigers had four extra base hits and scored in five different innings to improve to 7-4 in conference play. West Alabama scored three runs in the first two innings, and led 3-1, until they scored two more runs in the fourth inning to go up 5-1 and didn't look back.

Jon Sintes started for UWF, and pitched the first five innings, giving up five runs on only five hits; however, six walks helped West Alabama keep runners in scoring position all game long. Sintes dropped to 1-3 on the season, while the Tigers starter Brad Dill improved to 6-0 with a win. Dill pitched eight innings, allowing only six hits and two runs, while walking only one and striking out nine Argos.

Kyle Brown and Brandon Brewer added hits for West Florida, while Tyler Hastings added a run batted in. West Florida would be trying to salvage the final game of the series in the nightcap Sunday night. Kyle Ramsey was scheduled to take the hill in the series finale for the Argos.
