PENSACOLA, Fla. - The West Florida baseball team snapped a six game losing streak with a 6-4 win over the University of Auburn - Montgomery, Tuesday afternoon at Pelican Park. Starting pitcher Jon Sintes pitched his first complete game of the season while striking out four batters and allowing four runs. Sintes improved to 2-4 on the season, as he outdueled four Senators pitchers. West Florida broke on top with two runs each in the seventh and eighth innings with solid at bats and timely hitting. The Argos made the most of five hits, and are now19-29 overall this season with four games remaining.
Kyle Andrews scored the first run of the game for West Florida after reaching base on a passed ball after striking out. AUM starting pitcher Taylor Jernigan walked Greg Pron and then hit the next two, John Reed and Scott Beckwith, which allowed the first run of the game to score without a hit. West Florida led 1-0 after the first inning.
In the third West Florida loaded the bases on a John Reed single, followed by Scott Beckwith reaching on an error, and a Craig Westcott walk. With the bases loaded Ridgely Plaines came in to relieve Jernigan and walked Tyler Hastings, allowing the second run of the game to score without the aid of a hit by the Argos.
Auburn University of Montgomery tied the game in the fourth on a two run double from Cody Shields that scored Carlton Melton and Allen Ponder. Ponder drove in Matt Dunaway in the fifth on a single to left field. Then, a solo home from Daniel Jones in the sixth gave the Senators a 4-2 lead.
West Florida tied the game at four in the bottom of the seventh on consecutive base hit RBI's from Scott Beckwith and Craig Westcott. Pron singled through the left side of the infield and Reed was hit by a pitch to reach base before Beckwith and Westcott delivered with big hits. Jon Reed put the Argos ahead in the eighth on a two run double over the centerfielders head to make it a 6-4 game.
West Florida(19-29, 4-11 GSC) will play Montevallo University (28-19, 11-4 GSC) University at Patterson Field at 4:00pm in Montgomery Alabama. UWF has one remaining home series, which is against GSC rival Valdosta State University, on April 26th and 27th.
