Kyle Andrews Earns All-GSC Second Team Honors

May 2, 2008

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - West Florida Sophomore center fielder Kyle Andrews was selected to the 2008 All-GSC Baseball team this week. Andrews, from Fort Walton Beach, led the Argos in eight offensive categories this season. The Lead off hitter was a catalyst for the Argonaut offense, which averaged nearly six runs per game as a team. Andrews scored a team high 54 runs, while batting .351 for the season.

The fleet footed Andrews stole 16 bases this season, while leading the team in on-base percentage, with a .460 average, in addition to leading the team in At-bats (174), hits (61), runs (54), doubles (10), batting average (.351), total bases (76), and walks (30). Despite batting leadoff, he also added 23 runs batted in. The complete player appeared in all but four games this season.

West Alabama third baseman Rob Dahlberg added to his award collection as he was named the GSC East Division Player of the Year. Dahlberg, the 2006 GSC East Division Freshman of the Year, also claimed his third consecutive All-GSC laurel and was named to the First Team for the second year in a row. West Alabama and Delta State were the conference leaders with six and seven selections on the All-GSC teams. Last season the Argos had four members of the All-GSC team; however, all four were no longer with the team in 2008. Andrews represents a young group of Argos, which have a bright future in front of them.

During the impressive season for Kyle Andrews, there were 20 games in which the centerfielder produced multiple hits. Three times this season, Andrews scored four or more runs in a game, which exemplified his role as a leadoff hitter. In one six game stretch from February 10th to February 24th, Andrews had at least two hits in each game, and was 16 for 24 at the plate for an impressive .667 average over that two week span. Andrews, along with seven other starting position players should return next year as a strong nucleus of offensive punch.
