Huntsville, Ala. After shutting down West Alabama and North Alabama, the now fourth ranked West Florida Men's Tennis (9-1, 3-0 GSC) earned its ninth victory of the season by shutting down another GSC rival. The Argonauts blanked unranked Alabama-Huntsville (2-4, 0-2 GSC) on Saturday, March 8th at the Huntsville Athletic Club, located in Huntsville, Ala.. The Argonauts crashed the Chargers by not dropping a match, 5-0.

Playing conference rules, in which the first team reaching five points is declared the winner and the matches still on court would not need to finish, the Argonauts stepped up and quickly got the lead. The Argos easily got the lead after the doubles action. In the first doubles position, Nicolas Barrientos (senior/Cali, Colombia) and Patrick Batman (sophomore/Apopka, Fla.) had a good battle against Chargers Bruno Rocha and Andres Buse, 9-7. In the second doubles spot, Luis Arboleda (junior/Medellin, Colombia) and Carlos Zamora (freshman/Copenhagen, Denmark) defeated Davyd Fowler and Andre Ipince, 8-5. Luiz Bernardi (senior/Campinas, Brazil) and Jose Ycaza (junior/ Guayaquil, Ecuador) only dropped a game against Andrew Alfonso and Zac Brown, 8-1. After the doubles play, the Argonauts got the comfortable 3-0 lead over the Chargers.

In the singles action, the Argos did not have trouble to reach five points and finish the match. The Argonauts earned its other two remaining points in the bottom line spots. In the fifth position, Zamora did not drop a game against Alfonso, 6-0, 6-0. Playing in the sixth position, Gui Jasmin (freshman/Niteroi, Brazil) earned his first win of the season over Brown, after clinching the match with a 6-3, 6-1 score, scoring 5-0 for the Argos.

The Argonauts earned its ninth win of the season and improved its overall record to 9-1. The Argonauts will return to action on March 13, 2008, when they face Division I UT-Martin. This will be the UWF men's tennis team's first home match of the season, to be played at 2:00p.m. CT at the Ralph "Skeeter" Carlson Complex, located at the UWF main campus in Pensacola.
