PENSACOLA, Fla. - The Argos were scoreless in the first game against Barry University and held to only one hit by Barry pitcher Amber Jack. Pitcher Jillian LaFrance was given the start and had five strikeouts on the day, but gave up eight hits that lifted Barry to victory.
Both teams were scoreless in the first, but Barry put two runs on the board in the second inning. Amanda Goelz started the Buccanneers off with a single and was followed by singles from Natalie Heeley and Amber Jack. Holli Davis reached on a Whitney Gay error, which allowed pinch runner Danielle Rezendes. Brittany Anderson then reached on a fielder's choice, but Heeley was thrown out at home by third basemen Nicky VanCamp. Shyla Rider responded with a hard hit single to shortstop, scoring Jack. Barry added an insurance run in the fifth after a lead off double by Christina DeTagle. DeTagle scored on a Megan Young single before two fly outs ended the inning.
West Florida's only hit of the game came from powerhouse Nicky VanCamp , while Jack held the rest of the Argos hitless. The Argos continued play in the Barry series immediately following the first game, and will travel to Atlanta on Thursday for the Clark-Atlanta tournament.
