PENSACOLA, Fla. - West Florida put on a display in the first game against Central Methodist University on Tuesday afternoon with 6 runs on just 8 hits. Jillian LaFrance got the start and the win improving to 6-3 on the season. UWF softball improved to 16-6 with the 6-1 win.
The Argonaut ladies jumped to an early start in the top of the first inning, with a leadoff double from centerfielder Heather Bell. A single by Caurie Miller put two runners on the bases for clean up hitter Nicky VanCamp. VanCamp came through with a long shot over the fence just at the left field line to put three runs on the board. A fourth run came in the fourth inning in which Taren Walton singled and eventually came around to score on Central Methodist throwing errors.
Central Methodist answered in the bottom on the fourth with three singles and a run, their first of the game. But Whitney Gay wasn't settled with the lead and took one deep to centerfield to score Heather Bell, who was on with a looped single over the second basemen's head.
The Argos had eight hits on the game, two of which were homeruns and two singles from Miller. Melissa Chastang also had a single in the sixth inning. LaFrance finished up the game with five strikeouts and gave up five hits.
West Florida continued Spring Fling play against Central Methodist University immediately following the first game.
