PENSACOLA, Fla. - The Argos were the first on the board Wednesday night in the second game against Shorter College, but couldn't hold on to clinch the victory. Pitcher Jillian LaFrance suffered her fourth loss of the season, making her record 7-4. Six hits were given up to Shorter in the 4-1 loss, but there were no errors defensively for the Argos.
All was quiet for the first half of the game, but West Florida came alive in the bottom of the fourth inning. LaFrance led off with a single through the right side, putting pinch runner Dawnyele Stapleton on the bases. A sacrifice bunt from Taren Walton advanced Stapleton to second, and a ground out to second base from Kristee Wheeler sent Stapleton to third. After Emily Burge drew a walk, Julie Carroll sent an RBI single up the middle to score Stapleton.
A leadoff double for Shorter put a runner in scoring position, and a single scored the runner in the fifth inning. The sixth inning brought about three more runs for Shorter when Monica West sent one over the left field fence for three RBIs. The Argonauts were unable to answer and completed the game with only three hits.
The Argos continue play Thursday afternoon at 3pm against Central Methodist for the annual Spring Fling tournament.
