Box Score

PENSACOLA, Fla. - West Florida successfully pulled off another victory on the day, this one credited to pitcher Emily Burge. With twelve strikeouts and seven hits given up, Burge improved her record to 5-2. UWF hitters cranked out 16 hits in the 9-1 victory over Park University, led by Melissa Chastang.

Leftfielder Melissa Chastang proved herself in the leadoff spot, with a single in the top of the first to put a runner on the bases. Chastang eventually came around to score on a two-out RBI single from cleanup hitter Nicky VanCamp. After back to back singles from Kristee Wheeler and Taren Walton in the second innning, Chastang again stepped up and fired a double to the right center fence to score Wheeler's pinch runner, Dawnyele Stapleton, and Walton.

The runs kept coming in the top of the third as VanCamp started with a stand up double. Designated player Jillian LaFrance drew a walk, and a Wheeler single loaded the bases for Walton. An RBI single from Walton knocked in VanCamp, and LaFrance came around to score on a fly out from Julie Carroll. More runs came in the top of the sixth inning when Chastang's bat started off with a single. Second basemen Whitney Gay blasted her third homerun of the year to score Chastang and pick up two RBIs.

The bottom of the sixth inning brought a run scored on walks for Park University. The Argos refused to let up and added three more runs in the top of the seventh to secure their win. A leadoff single from Franny Bell and a walk from Julie Carroll would eventually come around to score on a big double from Stephany Aguiliar. Gay's single would put two runners on the bases and she would eventually score on an RBI single from LaFrance.

Chastang led at the plate, going four-for-five with three singles and a double on the game and improving her batting average to .313 on the season. VanCamp had a double and single, while both Wheeler and Walton had two singles each. Gay was two-for-three with her homerun and a single in the 7th inning. Julie Carroll, Franny Bell, Jill LaFrance and Stephany Aguiliar also added hits to the Argonaut hitting extravaganza.

The Argos will continue GSC Conference play Saturday afternoon at 12 pm CST against the University of Hunstville.
