UWF Suffers Tough Loss in Extra Innings to Arkansas Tech, 1-0

DECATUR, Ala. - West Florida lost their first game of the GSC crossover to West Division team Arkansas Tech in an eight inning game, 1-0. Taren Walton suffered the loss with five strikeouts and allowing seven hits, dropping to a 10-6 record on the season. West Florida hitters had six hits on the game, facing ATU's ace Dana Aldridge in the circle. Heather Bell and Nicky VanCamp both had two singles, combining for four of West Florida's hits.

Both sides battled for seven innings, with sporadic hits but neither team being able to produce a run for the lead. In the top of the eighth inning, ATU's leadoff Sarah Pratt singled to put a runner on base and would eventually come around to score the winning run on Molly Schweiger RBI single. Nicky VanCamp singled in the bottom of the eighth with two outs and then advanced on a wild pitch, but UWF was unable to move her around for a run.

Caurie Miller and Julie Carroll both had hits in the game to produce for West Florida after the four combined from Bell and VanCamp. After today's games, West Florida's record stands at 32-17 on the season and 12-7 in GSC play. West Florida will play their last GSC Crossover game on Sunday at 10AM against Henderson State. Monday will bring more GSC play for West Florida as they face 20th ranked Valdosta State, also leading the GSC East Division, at 1PM and 3PM.
