PENSACOLA, Fla. - UWF picked up a second win Saturday afternoon to complete the sweep over West Georgia. Taren Walton got the start and the win to improve West Florida to 37-18 on the season and 17-7 in GSC play. Nicky VanCamp and Emily Burge both had big RBI doubles, and VanCamp led the team with three RBIs.
West Florida was again able to score on West Georgia early in the game, as Heather Bell led off the game with a walk from pitcher Heather Colson. Taren Walton advanced Bell on a double and both runners scored on a big double from third basemen Nicky VanCamp. With a 2-0 lead, UWF produced another run in the third inning that stemmed from a Whitney Gay walk. Pinch running for Gay was Amie McMillion who slid into home all the way from first base on a stand up double from designated player Emily Burge.
With one out in the bottom of the fourth inning, Melissa Chastang drew a walk and would later score to increase to a 4-0 lead. Bell singled to the left side and Walton drew a walk to load the bases for VanCamp. Earning her third RBI of the game, VanCamp popped a single over the heads of the shortstop and third basemen before the inning ended.
In the top of the sixth inning with one out, West Georgia loaded the bases and scored on a foul fly ball that was caught for the second out of the inning. With two runners still left in scoring position, West Florida was able to prevent anymore runs from scoring making the third out on a fly ball caught by centerfielder Heather Bell. West Florida would go on to score another run in the bottom of the sixth inning for insurance, making the final score 5-1 as they closed out the seventh inning.
The Argos close out their season Sunday afternoon beginning at 2PM against GSC opponent West Alabama. Sunday will also be Senior Day, with festivities taking place between games.
