MONTGOMERY, Ala. - In the season opening match for both team's, West Florida(0-1) fell to the topr ranked NAIA force Auburn-Montgomery (1-0) in Montgomery, Ala. As the fifth ranked team in the NCAA Division II, West Florida did not earn a single point against the first ranked team in the NAIA. The match represented an extremely challenging start for the Argonauts as they prepare for a very successful season.

The Lady Senators swept the doubles action. In the first position, the NCAA Division II fifth ranked duo of Suzana Cavalcante (Sao Paulo, Brazil) and Paola Arevalo (Cali, Colombia) won only three games against the top duo from Auburn-Montgomery. In the second position, Taylor Brewster and Tatiana Rodrigues fell 8-2. Meanwhile, Renata Mattos and Lorena Rebolledo earned just a single game, falling 8-1 in the third spot.

The singles action was also swept by the Lady Senators. With the exception of the fourth position, the Lady Senators earned victories in straight sets. In the first position, currently the third ranked player in the NCAA Division II rankings, Suzana Cavalcante fell short 6-2, 7-5. Then the Argos 45th ranked player in NCAA Division II rankings, Paola Arevalo, got only a single game in each set, losing 6-1, 6-1 in the second position. Playing in the third spot, and 43rd ranked in NCAA Division II, Renata Mattos, fell 6-2, 6-3.

Making her debut as an Argonaut, Taylor Brewster came close to her first victory wearing an Argonaut shirt, when her opponent needed three sets to defeat her 7-5, 4-6, 6-1. Rodrigues had a close first set, but was not able to keep up with the same intensity in the second set, falling 7-5, 6-0 in the fifth position. In the sixth spot, and also making her debut as an Argonaut, Rebolledo got a single game in each set, falling 6-1, 6-1 to her opponent.

The Argonauts will try to even their season record on Saturday, February 16th as they return to action in Columbus Ga. Georgia College is the opponent in a match scheduled for 1:00 pm Eastern Time.
