Renata Mattos earned wins in both singles and doubles
 
 
West Florida Fails to Win First Match of the Season

Lakeland, Fla. The fifth ranked, West Florida (0-5) is off a tough season start. The Argonauts came really close to earn its first win of the season over the, 22nd ranked, Florida Southern (4-2), when it lead the Moccasins 3-0. The Mocs, however, turned the table and came back to defeat the Argos 5-4. With the result, the Argos suffered its fifth loss of the season.

The Argonauts started off the match dominating the Mocs. In the doubles action, the Argonauts won all three matches without much difficulty. In the first doubles spot, the fifth ranked doubles team formed by Argonauts Suzana Cavalcante (junior/Sao Paulo, Brazil) and Paola Arevalo (senior/Cali, Colombia) defeated the team formed by Moccasins Senka Softic and Ashley Hungerford 8-4. In the second spot Argonauts Taylor Brewster (freshman/Ontaro, Canada) and Tatiana Rodrigues (junior/Sao Paulo, Brazil) defeated Mocs Karolina Stochlova and Veronika Kovacikova, 8-5. Also with a 8-5 win, Renata Mattos (junior/Sao Paulo, Brazil) and Lorena Rebolledo (freshman/Puebla, Mexico) defeated Erin Conroy and Mona Sendesni, to give the 3-0 lead to the Argonauts.

In singles the Mocs turned the table against the Argos by winning five of six matches. In the first spot, 3rd ranked third Cavalcante did not win a game in the first set, and fell short 6-0, 7-5. In the second spot, Divison II 45th ranked Arevalo only won one game in each set, falling 6-1, 6-1 to the Lady Mocs. 43rd ranked, Mattos had a well fought match against Moc Ashley Hungerford, and gave the Argonauts its only point in singles with a 6-4, 7-5 win. In the fourth spot, Brewster only won two games in each set, dropping at 6-2, 6-2. Playing in the fifth position, Rebolledo dropped to the Cougars 6-1, 6-3. With the match tied at 4-4, the sixth singles match would decide the winner. Rodrigues pushed her opponent to the third set, however, Rodrigues fell short at 7-6, 4-6, 6-4, giving the final point to the Moccasins to finish the match at 5-4

The Moccasins improves to a 4-2 record, while the Argonauts dropped to 0-5. The Argonauts will now return to action on Saturday, March 01, to try to earn its first season victory. The Argonauts will face Florida Tech in Melbourne, Fla. at 2:00p.m. This will be the second of three matches played on a four-day road trip to the Orlando area.
