UWF Women's Tennis Remains Unbeaten in Conference Play

PENSACOLA, Fla. The 18th ranked West Florida Women's Tennis Team (11-8, 5-0 GSC) earned another victory over a GSC opponent this season by defeating 20th ranked Delta State (8-2, 4-1 GSC). The Argonauts remained unbeaten in conference play. The Argonauts did not have much trouble to knock the Lady Statesmen 7-2 this Sunday, April 6th at the Ralph "Skeeter" Carson Complex, located in the UWF main campus.

The Argonauts earned the 3-0 lead after the doubles action. In the first doubles position, 3rd ranked team formed by Argonauts Suzana Cavalcante (junior/Sao Paulo, Brazil) and Paola Arevalo (senior/Cali, Colombia) defeated Delta State first duo with a 8-2 score. The duo formed by Argonauts Taylor Brewster (freshman/Ontaro, Canada) and Lorena Rebolledo (freshman/Puebla,Mexico) defeated the Lady Statesmen with a 9-8(6) score. Renata Mattos (junior/Sao Paulo, Brazil) and Tatiana Rodrigues (junior/Sao Paulo, Brazil) formed the Argonauts third doubles team to defeat the Lady Statesmen with a 8-2 score, giving the 3-0 lead to the Argos.

In the singles action, with the exception of the second and fifth position, the Argonauts earned wins over the Lady Statesmen. Every Argo win in singles was in straight sets. However In the second singles position, Arevalo fell in straight sets to second player from Delta State. In the fifth singles position, Rebolledo dropped a set lead, and fell in the deciding tiebreak, finishing the match score at 7-2 for the Argonauts.

The Argonauts have won ten out of the last twelve matches played, including five victories over a GSC opponent. The Argonauts earned its eleventh win of the season, fifth over a GSC opponent to improve its overall record to 11-8 and its GSC record to 5-0. The Argos will return to action on Friday, April 11, 2008, when they face Division II fourth ranked and all-time rival Valdosta State. The match will be played at 2:00p.m. ET at Valdosta, Ga..
