Suzana Cavalcante earned wins in both singles and doubles against the Valdosta State Blazers
 
 
UWF Women's Tennis Drops against Valdosta State

PENSACOLA, Fla. The 16th ranked West Florida Women's Tennis Team (11-9, 5-1 GSC) fell for the first time this season to a GSC rival by dropping 7-2 to 4th ranked Valdosta State (10-4, 4-0 GSC). The Argonauts came to the match after a win over also GSC opponent Delta State. The Blazers dominated the Argonauts in both singles and doubles actions this Friday, April 11th at Valdosta, Ga.

Valdosta State earned the 2-1 lead after the doubles action. In the first doubles position, 3rd ranked team formed by Argonauts Suzana Cavalcante (junior/Sao Paulo, Brazil) and Paola Arevalo (senior/Cali, Colombia) defeated 8-4 Valdosta State first duo formed by Dominique Rothlaender and Tina Trautmann. The duo formed by Argonauts Taylor Brewster (freshman/Ontaro, Canada) and Lorena Rebolledo (freshman/Puebla,Mexico) fell short with a 8-5 score in the second position. Renata Mattos (junior/Sao Paulo, Brazil) and Tatiana Rodrigues (junior/Sao Paulo, Brazil) formed the Argonauts third doubles team that was defeated by the Blazers with a 8-6 score, giving the 2-1 lead to the Blazers.

In the singles action, the Argonauts earned a single point. In the first singles position, seventh ranked Cavalcante beat 7-6(5), 6-0 24th ranked Rothlaender from Valdosta State. In the other five matches, the Argonauts fell in straight sets. In the seond singles position, Arevalo fell 6-1, 6-3. Mattos fell 6-3, 6,0 in the third spot. Brewster came close in the first set, falling by a 7-5, 6-1 core in the fourth position. In the fifth spot, Rebolledo dropped at a 6-2, 6-4 score. Rodrigues only got two games in the 6-0, 6-2 loss. The Blazers earned the final score of 7-2 over the Argonauts.

With the loss to the Blazers, the Argonauts dropped its overall record to 11-9 and its GSC record to 5-1 to finish its regular season. The Argonauts have won ten out of the last thirteen matches played, including five victories over a GSC opponent. The Argos will return to action on Saturday, April 19, 2008, at the Gulf South Conference Championship to be played in Montgomery, Ala. The time and the opponent to be played has not been announced yet.
