MONTGOMERY, Ala. The 16th ranked West Florida Women's Tennis Team (12-9, 4-1 GSC) kicked off the Gulf South Conference Championship with a victory. The Argonauts defeated Henderson (6-8, 3-3 GSC) 5-0 in the quarterfinals of the tournament. The Argonauts entered the tournament as the second GSC East Division seeded, after being declared the regular conference season runner-up. The Argonauts did not have much trouble to blank Henderson this Saturday, April 19th at the Lagoon Park and O'Conner Tennis Center in Montgomery, Ala. The Argonauts earned the 3-0 lead after the doubles action, and only needed a couple more matches to finish the match at 5-0.
With the win, the Argonauts earned its 12th win of the season and now holds a 12-9 overall record. The Argos advanced to the semifinal round of the Gulf South Conference Tournament against 20th ranked Delta State (12-2, 6-0 GSC). The Argonauts have defeated Lady Statesmen during the regular season with a 7-2 score. The match will be played at the same site located in Montgomery, Ala. this Friday, April 19, 2008 at 4:30p.m. CT.
