Saint Mary's Patrick Mills Named WCC Player Of The Week

SAN BRUNO, Calif. - Saint Mary's freshman guard Patrick Mills was named the WCC Player of the Week for his performance in leading the Gaels to road wins at Loyola Marymount and Pepperdine. The weekly conference honor is Mills' third of the season. Mills turned in a brilliant week, averaging 20.0 points per game in just 24.5 minutes per contest in the two wins. He also handed out 3.0 assists per game to go along with 2.5 steals and 2.5 rebounds per game. The Canberra, Australia native shot the ball extremely well during the week, knocking down 66.7 percent (14-of-21) from the field, including 63.6 percent (7-of-11) from beyond the arc. Mills started the week by tossing in a game-high 22 points on 8-of-12 shooting from the field in the Gaels' 80-49 win at Loyola Marymount. He also added four assists and two steals, while committing just one turnover. Two nights later he scored a game-high 18 points on 6-of-9 shooting from the floor in Saint Mary's 100-64 win at Pepperdine. Mills connected on 3-of-4 shots from long range to help the Gaels set a new school record with 17 threes. Mills and the Gaels will return to action on Saturday, Feb. 23 against the Kent State Golden Flashes in the O'Reilly/ESPNU BracketBusters event. The game between SMC and Kent State will tip-off at 9 p.m. from McKeon Pavilion and will be televised on ESPN2. 2007-08 WCC PLAYERS OF THE WEEK
