Green Bay Concludes Regular Season With Classic Races at NCAA Regionals

Pletcher takes ninth for women; Gastonguay leads Phoenix men

BIWABIC, Minn. - The Green Bay men's and women's Nordic ski teams concluded the 2008 regular season Sunday with the classic races at the NCAA Central Regional Championship at Giant's Ridge. The women took fourth out of 10 teams while the men placed fifth in the nine-team field.

Ashley Pletcher was the top finisher for either team on the day, as the senior grabbed a ninth-place finish with her time of 34:54.0 in the 10K event. Carolyn Freeman followed up Saturday's strong showing with a 13th place finish overall Sunday, with her time of 35:30.4 ranking as second-best for the Phoenix.

For the men, Bryan Gastonguay was the top finisher for the Phoenix, finishing 20th overall with a 47:56.9 time in the 15K race. Santi Ocariz finished 22nd overall.

Green Bay now awaits the final point tabulation for the season for the opportunity to compete in the 2008 NCAA Championships March 5-8 in Bozeman, Mont.
