NORMAL, Ill. - A quick turnaround was no problem for the Green Bay women's swimming team, which picked up a 166.5-133.5 victory over Illinois State Saturday afternoon. When the first event started at noon, the Phoenix had finished its dual meet at Western Illinois just 17 hours earlier. Saturday marked the 10th straight victory of the season for the Phoenix, which improved to 10-3 on the season. Danielle DeGrand (Green Bay, Wis.) was the star of the meet, as she picked up three individual event victories. The junior won both backstroke races, the 100-yard event in 59.18 and the 200 back in 2:07.72. She added a victory in the 200-yard individual medley (2:10.87). Shannon Demrow (Algonquin, Ill.) also enjoyed an outstanding afternoon. She won both distance competitions, the 1000-yard freestyle (10:39.63) and the 500 free (5:09.83). Green Bay's other winner in the lanes was Ashley Warzon (Sussex, Wis.), who touched first in the 100-yard butterfly (57.52). The top two Phoenix divers split the two events. Lauren McGraw (Woodbury, Minn.) took the crown in the 1-meter dive (235.72), while Kari Helland (Wayzata, Minn.) owned the 3-meter (252.98). Green Bay's men's and women's teams conclude the regular season next Saturday at Milwaukee at 1 p.m. The Phoenix then will participate in the Horizon League Championships in Cleveland, Ohio, from Feb. 20-23. --www.uwgbathletics.com-- |
