Women's Medley Relay Highlights Day One at League Championships

CLEVELAND, Ohio - The Green Bay women's swimming team began defense of its three straight league titles by sitting in third after the first day of the Horizon League Championships. The men's squad is fifth with three full days of competition remaining. Green Bay's 200-yard medley relay team of Danielle DeGrand, Dana Doute, Ashley Warzon and Kelsey Hausken highlighted the day for the Phoenix with a victory in the event. The quartet swam a strong time of 1:45.93 to earn the win. The 200-yard freestyle relay squad of Alyssa Danielson, Shannon Demrow, Laurel Yelton and Hausken was the runner up in 1:35.41. In the only women's individual event of the night, freshman Deanna DeGrand placed fifth in the 1000-yard freestyle with a clocking of 10:29.59. The men's 200 free relay team of Cory Carlson, Ryan Loy, Alex Hill and Tim Scanlan had a fourth-place showing, while the 200 medley relay squad of Carlson, Jason Askew, Jordan Mathes and Hill also finished fourth (1:33.51). In the men's 3-meter diving event, Wilson Robinson was the top Phoenix performer. He scored a 239.25 in the six-dive competition to finish fourth. Day two of the Horizon League Championships will feature the 500 freestyle, 200 individual medley, 50 free, 400 medley relay and the women's 1-meter diving. --www.uwgbathletics.com-- |
